Care Suggestions for Adidas Judo Uniforms
The entire range of Adidas Judo jackets will shrink less due to 20% Polyester 80% Cotton construction. This blend has been tested with results indicating 20% increased strength over comparable 100% cotton products, and 15% less shrinkage than the same comparable cotton products.
You can expect approximately 3 cm on the sleeves if washed in cold water and hung to dry. If washed in hot water and dried in a dryer, you may have up to 7 cm of shrinkage on the sleeves. The tumbling action in the dryer will shorten the life of your uniform significantly. Blue Judogi will tend to shrink less due to the dying process that they have been through.
The IJF J930 judogi are “sanforised” meaning that the material has been “preshrunk”. However, some shrinkage may still occur, depending on washing and drying methods.
Note that the pants are generally 100% cotton drill and will shrink more than the jackets as a result.
The manufacturers suggested care is to always wash your uniform in cold water and hang to dry. Never use bleach to clean your uniform. Adhering to this method will provide you with the longest wear for your investment. Using liquid fabric softener may also reduce the life of your uniform.
One cup of baking soda in your wash will help keep your uniform white and remove odours. One cup of white vinegar in the wash will help kill mould. Always wash your uniform as soon as you can after practice and your uniform will always stay clean and fresh.
All Adidas Judogi from J350 up carry a 10 year guarantee against manufacturing defects. This does not cover normal “wear and tear” through use (or mis-use!).
